Getting the perfect pie crust was always a challenge for me.

It was never really about the ingredients as there are only a few.

But, it was the method and steps that make the difference.

Watch my video to show how easy it is to make the perfect pie crust. 

If you are making a top crust for your pie, you will need to DOUBLE the recipe. 

You need to use COLD butter. This is very important in making a flaky crust. 

Also, when rolling out your dough, always start from the center of the dough and continue to roll out in a circle. 

Have fun making homemade pie crust. You will love it. 

Pie Crust

Here is what you need

  • 1 1/2 Cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 Cup butter (1 stick) – Keep cold
  • 2 – 4 Tablespoons milk

Double recipe if making a top crust. 

How to Make:
  1. Add flour to a bowl.
  2. Add sugar and salt and mix.
  3. With a pastry blender or fork (or even your fingers), break the cold butter into small pieces the size of a pea.
  4. Add 2 tablespoons of cold milk.
  5. With a fork, mix milk into the flour mixture. If it still looks dry, add another tablespoon of milk.
  6. Form a ball. 
  7. Keep dough cold in airtight container until ready to use.
  8. Roll out dough on a floured board to 1/8 inch thick. Cut to the size you need. Carefully place in pie dish. 
  9. If you need to bake the crust without filling, bake in preheated oven at 325 degrees for 20 minutes or until golden brown.

If making a crust top, cover the apple filling with crust top. Lightly spread water with a pastry brush, then lightly sprinkle with sugar. This will give it a nice shiny top.
