Spooky Fun Halloween Cakes

How fun are these Halloween Cakes to make. 

If you look close you can see that it is actually on frosted cake with four different designs to choose from.

I made a quick video to show how to frost the cake.

Just pick the one you want to make and decorate and then the fun begins.

There are:

  1. Googly Eyes Cake
  2. Candy Corn Cake
  3. Bat Cake
  4. Candy Ghost Cake

You can modify these cakes in many ways. You do not have to use different colors of frosting and can add in different items to make it your unique cake.

The fun part is letting the kids decorate and make it as spooky fun as they want.

Here is what you need

  • YOU NEED:
  1. Baked & cooled cake
  2. Buttercream Frosting (see recipe below)
  3. Ingredients and supplies listed for each cake.
How to Make Candy Corn Cake:

What you Need:

  • Baked and cooled Cake 
  • Buttercream frosting
  • Candy Corn & pumpkins candies
  • Bench Scraper  or spatula
  • #352 Leaf Tip
  • Ziploc bag or decorating bags
  • Orange, green and yellow food color gel (optional)
  1. Frost the cake using different colors of buttercream. Use side of spatula to smooth the color.
  2.  Place leaf tip into piping bag or ziploc bag (cut to fit). Pipe green leaves in middle of cake.
  3. Decorate with candy pumpkins and candy corn.

How to make Googly Eyes Cake:

  • Baked and cooled Cake 
  • Buttercream Frosting
  • Edible eyes – large or different sizes
  • Star piping tip
  • Ziploc bag or decorating bags
  • Orange and yellow food color gel (optional)

Frost cooled cake.

  1. Insert star tip into a decorating bag. Add orange or yellow frosting. 
  2. Pipe swirls around top of cake.
  3. Add edible eyes throughout the cake.

How to make Candy Ghost Cake:

  1. Baked and cooled Cake 
  2. Buttercream Frosting
  3. White and Black Candy Melts 
  4. Bench Scraper 
  5. Bamboo or cookie sticks
  6. Wax paper or parchment paper
  7. Orange and yellow food color gel (optional)

Frost the cooled cake

  1. Melt the white candy melts in the microwave. Usually takes 1 minute to melt.
  2. With a spoon, create ghosts by spreading candy melts onto parchment paper. Add a bamboo or cookie stick. Let dry.
  3. Melt a small amount of black candy melts. Carefully use a toothpick to make ghost eyes. Let dry.
  4. Insert ghosts into the cake. 

Bat Cake:

  • Baked and cooled Cake 
  • Buttercream 
  • Foam sheet bats (buy at craft store or make with black foam sheets paper. 
  • Tape bats to bamboo sticks.
  • Orange and yellow food color gel (optional)

How to Make Buttercream Frosting:

  • 1 Cup butter (2 sticks)
  • 1 lb. powdered sugar
  • 1 Tablespoon pure vanilla extract
  • 3 Tablespoons cream or half & half
  1. Whip the butter with an electric mixer – about 3 minutes. It should look white.
  2. Slowly add 1/2 cup at a time of the sugar. 
  3. Add vanilla and milk.
  4. Beat until creamy.
