Oh for the love of warm muffins on a cold morning.
These brown sugar cinnamon muffins are such a treat. With all the spices we love, they are moist and delicious.
The brown sugar gives the added flavor that regular sugar does not.
Want to make buttermilk with regular milk? Just add 1 tablespoon of white vinegar to your milk. Let it sit for 5 minutes and it makes the same taste as buttermilk which is a little tangy.

Here is what you need
- 2 Cups All-purpose flour
- 1 Cup Brown sugar 2 tsp white sugar (for the topping)
- 1 tsp Baking soda
- 1 tsp Cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp nutmeg
- 1/8 tsp allspice
- 1/2 tsp Salt
- 1/2 Cup (1 stick) Cold salted butter
- 1 Cup Milk or Buttermilk
- 1 Egg
- 1 tsp Vanilla extract
For Topping:
Mix together in a small bowl, 2 tsp sugar and 1/2 tsp cinnamon.
Melt 3 tsp butter
How to Make:
Preheat oven to 400 F. Oil a muffin tin with butter, shortening, oil or non-stick spray.
1. First, combine the dry ingredients in a large mixing bowl – flour, brown sugar, spices, baking soda, and salt.
2. Cut the cold butter into the dry ingredients using a fork or pastry blender.
3. Whisk together the wet ingredients – milk, egg & vanilla.
4. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients. The tiny pea-sized pieces of butter will be distributed throughout the batter, so it will still be lumpy. Don’t over-mix the batter.
5. Spoon the batter into a muffin tin.
6. Bake the muffins at 400 degrees F for 15-20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
7. Finally, when the muffins are cool enough to handle, brush the tops with melted butter and then dip in a cinnamon-sugar mixture.
