In a bowl, whisk together buttermilk and egg. Set aside
In another bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking soda, and salt.
Mix in cubed cold butter. Use hands or pastry cutter to make small pea sized butter pieces. Fold in raisins.
Stir in buttermilk mixture to the flour mixture. It will be sticky. Add flour to your hands to form dough into a round circle.
Place your round dough in well-greased pan.Score with knife to make a large X. Sprinkle ΒΌ Cup sugar over top.
Bake in lower rack of oven for 45 minutes. Serve warm. Keep covered to stay fresh.
