Kids Baking Club

I love showing kids (and adults) how to make delicious meals on a budget.

Growing up in an Italian family, pasta was frequently made with all kinds of different sauces and types of pasta.

Rigatoni is a favorite with bolognese (meat sauce).

This meal cost me $13 and served six people.

  • Rigatoni = $1 on sale
  • Sauce = $3 on sale
  • Ground meat = $8
  • Grated cheese (1/2 cup) $1

You can make in less than 30 minutes as you brown the meat while cooking the pasta.

Enjoy!

NOTE: Adult supervision is mandatory when working over a stove.

SUPPLIES NEEDED:

  • Pan to cook meat
  • Pan to cook pasta
  • Strainer
  • Wooden spoons

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 pound ground meat (beef, turkey, chicken)
  • Rigatoni pasta (1 box or bag)
  • 1 jar of spaghetti sauce
  • Grated parmesan cheese

How to make:

  • On medium heat, cook meat until thoroughly cooked.
  • Pour in pasta sauce and let simmer for about 10 minutes.
  • In another pan, heat water to boiling. Add a little bit of olive oil so pasta doesn’t stick.
  • Add pasta. Rigatoni takes about 14-18 minutes to cook.
  • Turn off heat. Strain the pasta. Do not rinse pasta with water as this takes away the starch in the pasta.
  • Pour pasta into a large dish or small dishes for each person.
  • Pour meat sauce over.
  • Sprinkle grated parmesan cheese (optional)

Enjoy!
