I have made this apple crisp recipe dozens and dozens of times.

It is will become a family favorite. 

It’s a delicious apple pie without the crust. You can make this in 20 minutes. 

You add sliced Granny Smith apples with cinnamon & sugar, then top with a oatmeal topping. 

It’s a classic dessert served usually during Fall, but is wonderful to make throughout the year.

Top with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.

I always use Granny Smith and peel the skins. I have seen other recipes where different apples are used and they keep the skins on.

It’s up to you. You may have a favorite apple and love the peels on.

Apple Crisp

Here is what you need

  • 6 Granny Smith apples, peeled and sliced
  • 2 Tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon, – divided
  • 1 1/2 tsp lemon juice (for apples)
  • 1 cup light brown sugar
  • 3/4 cup old fashioned oats
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon or pumpkin pie spice
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) cold butter, diced into small cubes
  • pinch of salt
How to Make:
 
1. Preheat oven to 350 F degrees.
 
2. Butter an 8×8 baking dish, or spray with non-stick cooking spray.  Set aside.
 
3. In a mixing bowl, add sliced apples, granulated sugar, 1 tsp of the cinnamon and lemon juice.  Stir to combine, then transfer to prepared baking dish.
 
4.  In a same mixing bowl, add topping ingredients – brown sugar, oatmeal, flour, 1 tsp cinnamon, salt, and diced cold butter.  
 
5. With a pastry cutter to cut the butter into the oat mixture to mix butter into mixture. You can also use your hands too. 
 
6. Spread topping over apples in baking dish, and gently pat to even it out.  
 
7. Bake 40-50 minutes, until golden brown and bubbly.
 
Serve warm and enjoy!
